If you are still numb for a long time, then the dentist gave you a good size dose to do the work needed. It has no permanent effect and will eventually put you back to normal. What you're probably experiencing is Parasthesia. The dentist did a wonderful job in getting you numb by using the right injection techniques. Everyone responds differently to local anesthesia. Most local anesthesias have long half-lives and take longer for the body to break down the chemical composition and get metabolized.
26 hours later and you are STILL NUMB? Yes, something is definitely wrong. Have you noticed if the numbness is lessening at all? I would call the Dentist and request to be seen. This is not acceptable.
